Only eight years after we first heard the rumor (open in new tab), we finally have our first shot at the silver screen version of "Five Nights at Freddy's". What's more, we now have a release date: Blumhouse Productions announced via its Instagram page that "Five Nights at Freddy's" will be released in theaters and on the Peacock streaming service this October 27.
In this photo, we get our first look at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza (opens in new tab), the restaurant (or restaurant chain) where the FNAF game takes place. Standing outside, we see the titular Mr. Fazbear accompanied by a child who may or may not be Piper Rubio (opens in new tab), who is listed as a cast member in the film.
And, alas, that's it. There is no sign of the rest of the cast, including the once and future Shaggy, Matthew Lillard, who was revealed last December as the actor (open in new tab) playing the villainous Fuzzbear founder William Afton. Still, the film seems to capture the disturbing and sinister atmosphere of FNAF well.
It has been a long road from the first whispers of a Five Nights at Freddy's movie to today. A film version was first reported to be in production at KatzSmith Productions in 2015, but supposedly fell through; in 2017, Blumhouse acquired the rights to a film based on the game, but everything was delayed until FNAF creator Scott Cawthorne decided the perfect script The delay came about because FNAF creator Scott Cawthorne decided to postpone everything until he had the perfect script. Finally, in 2021, the film lost its director (opens in new tab), Chris Columbus.
But it seems that production has finally begun under director Emma Tami (opens in new tab), and the FNAF series is only six months away from moving to the big screen. Better late than never.
