One of the Most Influential FPS Games Influenced the New Map for Overwatch 2 Season 4

Overwatch developers have been citing Quake (open in new tab) for years as inspiration for their hero shooter design. There are jump pads and heroes that can rocket jump. But in the upcoming season, we finally have an entire map that looks like it was ripped straight out of the classic Arena shooter.

Earlier this year, Blizzard did a Twitch stream (opens in new tab) where viewers helped design a map for the game's goofy arcade mode. That map, called Talantis, will be fully playable in Arcade Mode for a limited time starting April 25.

Talantis is an underwater map consisting of suspended platforms and a jump pad that allows you to jump between them, much like Quake's The Longest Yard (open in new tab), but with giant fish circling around you. No matter where you go on this map, you are just a few steps away from falling into the abyss. Lucio and Wrecking Ball players will be enthusiastic about buzzing their enemies off the edge.

Season 4 will feature a space opera-themed Battle Pass, whose final premium tier, Sigma, will include a customizable Galactic Emperor Mythos skin. It will also introduce a new support hero, the Life Weaver (opens in a new tab), who will be able to team up with three other Life Weavers (unlocked or not) to play in the team deathmatch modes, B.O.B. and Weave.

Support players can also try out the rebuilt Brigitte. This shielded healer has a new Ultimate that increases the size and health of its barrier and gives it a short stun when it hits an enemy; according to a Blizzard blog post (opens in new tab), recent changes to Mercy's healing output and flight (opens in new tab) have been almost completely will be undone, and Sigma, Reinhardt, and Cassidy will have their "lethality" adjusted slightly.

Battle for Olympus mode will return in Overwatch 2 Season 4, along with a new space opera-themed arcade mode set on the Horizon Lunar Colony map.

The previously promised removal of rank decay from the game's competitive mode (opens in a new tab) will also be realized in the new season. Competitive players will no longer start the season with a lower rank, which is expected to ease the discrepancy between visible rank and invisible MMR.

The roadmap for Overwatch 2 Season 4 looks like this:

Overwatch 2 Season 4 will begin on Tuesday, April 11 at 11:00 am PT / 2:00 pm ET.
