Dying Light" is now free in the Epic Games Store

Techland's zombie survival game Dying Light (opens in new tab) is a strange beast in a way: it was released in 2015 to critical, if not critical acclaim, and then developer Techland offered updates, new content, and entire spin-offs. The final update, released in May 2022, upgraded everyone to the Dying Light Enhanced Edition for free.

That dedication has paid off: "Dying Light" has nearly 276,000 "overwhelmingly positive" user reviews on Steam (opens in new tab), and according to Steam charts, more people are now playing "Dying Light 2" than are playing its more recent sequel, " Playing "Dying Light. This is the expansion, which includes all upgrades and additional content, including The Following expansion and the Season Pass. Also, once you get this, you can hop on over to Techland's website and get the Dying Light Welcome Pack for free as well.

The Dying Light Enhanced Edition isn't the only thing that's free this week. Shapez (opens in a new tab), a game about building factories that automate the production of geometric shapes, is also blocked. The game looks stressful, but the store page describes it as a "relaxing game," and like Dying Light, it has been rated "overwhelmingly positive" in more than 8,500 user reviews on Steam. This is the first time Dying Light has been available, but it was previously available as a freebie on the Epic Store.

Both Dying Light and Shapes are free until April 13. After that, the medieval melee combat game Mordhau (opens in a new tab) and the cooperative dinosaur shooter Second Extinction (opens in a new tab) will take their place. If you're curious about all the games Epic has distributed since it started giving them away for free in 2019 please visit the list (opens in new tab).
