Nvidia's latest RTX 40 series graphics have a lot to offer. But value is usually not high on the list. However, Newegg's $1,499 (opens in new tab) RTX 4070 MSI laptop is the closest to a reasonable price in a mobile form (opens in new tab). [It has 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an Intel Core i7 12650H CPU. This is an Alder Lake-era chip with six performance cores and four efficient cores, good enough for gaming and quite suitable for productivity.
As for the screen, it has a 15.6" IPS 144Hz. In other words, nothing groundbreaking, but a decent platform for all-around visuals and performance.
Indeed, the same can be said about this laptop as a whole. It may only have last-generation CPU technology, but it has all the CPUs you need, especially for mobile use; the same goes for the 16GB of RAM and the 1TB SSD; and it has a very good amount of RAM and a very good amount of memory, with a very good amount of memory for the CPUs.
In short, this laptop is up to spec and ready to go; don't worry about upgrading the RAM or SSD anytime soon. Everything is in place to enjoy the game.
Exactly how much better?" We have yet to bring the RTX 4070 mobile into the lab, but most estimates are that it is roughly 30% faster than the older RTX 3070. In other words, the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 are not significantly more advanced than their RTX 30 series equivalents. However, they should still deliver strong all-around performance.
Furthermore, as an RTX 40 series GPU, you also get the latest DLSS 3, including frame generation.
Either way, if you're looking for an affordable gaming portable PC, this one is worth a look.
