Rejoice, ye PC gamers. The Diablo 4 beta (opens in new tab) has been released, and while there may be more when it launches in June, for now it makes for great reading.
According to Blizzard, you'll need an Intel Core i5 2500K or AMD FX 8100 for the CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon R9 280 for graphics. And, it would need 8GB of RAM and 45GB of storage. This will give you a 30 fps experience at low graphics settings of 720p.
Regarding recommended specs, Blizzard does not specify target resolutions, image quality, or frame rates. However, 1080p, medium, and preferably 60 fps would be a good place to start.
Whatever it is, you'll need an Intel Core i5-4670K or AMD Ryzen R3-1300X processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (opens in a new tab) or AMD Radeon RX 470 graphics (oh, remember when you could buy a half-decent GPU for $180? Remember when you could buy a half-decent GPU for $180) (opens in new tab), and 16 GB of RAM.
According to Blizzard, the game may actually run on hardware with even lower specs than the minimum, but at the cost of a "significantly degraded experience."
However, if we take the recommended specs as a more realistic option, the Nvidia and AMD GPUs in question are from September 2014 and August 2016, respectively. In other words, they are very old GPUs.In other words, here's a game from a major developer that doesn't need a shiny new GPU. Hooray.
Well, so far you're right. The developer of the game mentioned on the live stream that ray tracing will be added after the game is released, but to what extent we don't know yet. We don't know how much yet, but it will mean that Nvidia RTX 2060 (open in new tab) or AMD RX 6000 (open in new tab) graphics will be required as a minimum.
But of course, you don't have to play with ray tracing, nor do you know if enabling ray tracing will make your gameplay more compelling. For now, then, it's better to focus on the fact that Diablo 4 looks like one of the most democratic triple-A game titles of recent times. It's one that all of us can enjoy.
