Blizzard has a legitimate reason as to why the heroes of "Overwatch 2" are wearing costumes from the upcoming "One Punch Man".

Speaking to Xbox Wire (opens in new tab), "Overwatch 2" art director Dion Rogers said that the characters will not be One Punch Man characters when they use the crossover skin, just big fans.

"That's our approach. Our heroes basically know the cartoon and are fans. And they dress up as heroes," Rogers said. 'So if you see Doomfist wearing Saitama clothes, he's a fan too.'

Chirico, a support character who climbs the walls of the Hero Shooter, has a tornado-themed skin. This skin changes her outfit to black and her hair to green like a psychic one-punch man character.

Overwatch 2 takes place around the year 2077, and Chirico is in her early 20s. I would have expected Neon Genesis Evangelion to survive that long. Doomfist and Soldier: 76 are much older than Chirico, so I can see them cosplaying as one-punch man characters.

Rogers also said that many people on the "Overwatch 2" team like One Punch Man, which led him to pursue this collaboration. For example, Doomfist appeared in a voice line (opens in new tab) that referenced One Punch Man.

The Chirico Terrible Tornado skin will drop at the One Punch Man event on March 7. Her skin comes bundled with a profile name card and victory pose and requires 2,100 Overwatch coins, while Doomfist can get the Saitama skin (open in new tab) in the store and Soldier: 76 can get the Mumen Rider skin (open in new tab) for free. open in new tab) in the store.

Blizzard has not yet revealed the limited-time mode for the One Punch Man event, but a trailer (opens in new tab) will be released next week with more details.
