Yesterday, the first major patch was applied to Sons of the Forest, adding bug fixes and tons of new features to the popular survival sim (opens in new tab). And, voila, there are lots of new features: kelvin (opens in new tab) will no longer go chopping down the tree that your treehouse is in. This is both great news and the worst news I've ever heard.
But curbing Kelvin's free spirit is not all that Patch 01 (opens in new tab) for Sons of the Forest is about. The next time you boot up the game, you will also find several new tools that will help you eradicate cannibals. Specifically, you will be able to use hang gliders and binoculars to scout your surroundings and build defensive wall gates to protect your valuables from looters.
If you don't know how to get these new toys, luckily, Sons of the Forest already has a guide on where to get binoculars (opens in new tab) and hang gliders (opens in new tab).
There are many other additions, and the full patch notes are below, but it should be noted that the patch has made the game a bit more dangerous. New mid-game boss fights have been added, watch towers have been installed in some cannibal villages, shotgun damage has been halved, and as if this were not enough, "Angry normal cannibals can now jump out of trees to attack", perhaps the most threatening sentence ever put into writing! A sentence was added.
The patch also fixed a glitch that allowed people to use sticks to get through locked doors, and it upended the speed-running meta (opens in new tab) of Sons of the Forest by updating the game's DLSS version to 3.1.1. If that's not enough, here are the full patch notes:
