2018's "Two Point Hospital" (opens in new tab) was a worthy spiritual successor to the management sim classic "Theme Hospital" (opens in new tab), but let me tell you, there was no such thing as an alien. Thankfully, Galacticare is here to correct this tragic and obvious mistake.
In this game, you are charged with running a medical space station and caring for an extensive and bizarre race of The Steam page states, "You'll be responsible for patients of all shapes and sizes, from tiny biomechanical lemurs to spaceship-sized aliens to entire planets."
The basic facility construction and management is similar to Theme Hospital, but with a colorful sci-fi aesthetic reminiscent of another classic management sim: Startopia. Freaky aliens and a sci-fi setting are the perfect rationale for taking Theme Hospital's bizarre and comical illnesses and treatments to a new level of absurdity.
However, it's not just a shiny new skin on an old familiar game. Developer Brightrock Games previously created "War for the Overworld," which replicated the formula of "Dungeon Keeper" but expanded the experience by adding entirely new gameplay; "Galacticare" seems to have similar ambitions. For example, the crew of doctors and surgeons are named characters, recruited and taken along on each mission, such as the DJ or the "fungus-addicted monk." the DJ or the "fungus-addicted monk" is one such character. Each has its own unique mechanics, and you can choose how they level up over the course of the campaign, as well as reveal their backstories. [Similarly, treating patients of different races builds your reputation with them and unlocks new rewards in addition to those revealed in the research lab.
The vibrant atmosphere and hilarious humor of the trailer (opens in new tab) definitely caught my attention. No release date has been set yet, with only a vague target of 2023, but it looks like management sim fans will need to keep their telescopes pointed this year.
