Minecraft 1.20 features now included as experimental toggles in latest game version

While the start date for the next major Minecraft update is still unknown, the fact is that today's Java version update 1.19.4 includes a toggle that enables all the big Minecraft 1.20 features that have been announced so far. If you want to try out the new features of Sniffer, Cherry Blossom Biome, and Archaeology, you no longer have to adjust your snapshot version.

According to the patch notes for version 1.19.4, Mojang says that the game experimentation toggles now include a "first look" at Sniffer, Archaeology, Armor Trim, and Cherry Blossom Biome. The "first look" would mean that these features are not 100% complete at launch. For example, in previous snapshot builds, sniffers could only be seen by spawning in creative mode and could not be found in the wild.

The 1.19.4 update also changed the "create new world menu." to enable the 1.20 feature, go to the "more" tab and turn on the 1.20 feature for new save files under "experimental." Good luck and try not to get distracted by taking screenshots of the sniffer like I did.

There are several other changes in Java 1.19.4, including improved horse status breeding, onboarding of accessibility features for new players, and a long list of other bug fixes. If you want to stay on the absolute cutting edge in case any of these 1.20 features appear later in enhanced form, you can install a snapshot build by checking the "Snapshot" checkbox in the "Install" tab of the Minecraft launcher.
