Last year's "DreamWild" (open in new tab) captivated me to the core. It's a fast-paced horde-mode roguelike with one of my favorite art styles of any recent game: a surreal, vividly rendered revival that combines throwback 3D graphics with spritzed models and pre-rendered backgrounds, like a classic RPG It's a thing of beauty. Every aspect of this game has grown on me more since I first played and loved it (opens in new tab). Initially, I wasn't a big shooter, but the emphasis on bunny hopping for speed and zooming through surreal lunar landscapes has been ingrained in my brain. There is an almost meditative quality to chasing the inhabitants of Dreamwilds and leading them like pied pipers beaming with swords.

But the vibes still reign supreme for me. As I load into this lush, mossy wilderness, abstract ruins and sundial faces emerge from the swamp, and a large location card pops out and says:

"DreamWild #8989: SUNKEN GROUNDS -Cambrian Technology Bed-"

This is the exact location. Dreamy OSTs that look like they came straight out of a Dreamcast game tie everything together.

So, DreamWild, as we've become accustomed to seeing in Steam sales, the discounts aren't as great: the price is down to $6.40 from the usual $8, but you can still save 20% today over yesterday to check out this real hidden gem. Since its release last October, the total number of Steam reviews is only 83.
