General
Last weekend, more than one million players got their puppies.

At what point does a closed beta stop being "closed"? Because during last weekend's beta testing period, one million people reached level 20 or above, successfully unlocking the Early Voyager title and, more importantly, the adorable wolf pup backpack (opens in a new tab). (Open in new tab).

Both of these rewards are 100% cosmetic, but never underestimate the human urge to acquire limited edition trinkets of questionable value. I'll definitely be diving into "Diablo" this weekend to unlock my own little furry friend, and I'm not even sure if I'll play the full game. Send help.

Blizzard has not revealed the total number of players who participated in last weekend's beta, but if over a million players were able to reach level 20, one has to imagine that there are many more who did not. Not all of them will be those who pre-ordered the game, but some of them will be avid KFC Double Down fans (opens in new tab).

If you didn't spend your holiday cutting back to get your hands on a little virtual puppy, then A) you frankly need to get your priorities straight; the Diablo 4 open beta (opens in new tab) begins this Friday, March 24, at 9am PT/12pm ET/4pm GMT, and B) you'll have to wait until tomorrow to get in on the action. and preload will begin tomorrow, also at 9:00 am PT/12:00 pm ET/4:00 pm GMT.

If you were one of the more than one million limited players who participated in the Diablo 4 closed beta last weekend, your progress will carry over to the open beta. Nevertheless, you might as well play anyway, since the open beta will allow you to play with two additional classes that were not available in last weekend's session: the druid and the necromancer.

Be warned, don't get too attached to your beta characters, as they won't carry over to the full version of Diablo 4, which will be released in June. But they will carry over to the new puppies, so be as attached to them as you want. I think that's the point.
