Mythos Hunting Game by Former "Skyrim" Developer Coming Sooner Than Expected

The Axis Unseen, a heavy metal bow-hunting game by longtime Bethesda developer Nate Purkeypile (head and sole member of Just Purkey Games) (opens in new tab), was at the Future Game Show with a fresh trailer: released at the Spring Showcase. The trailer revealed several new biomes that will appear in the game, as well as a release date of 2024.

The Axis Unseen is essentially an entire open-world game that specializes in one of the Elder Scrolls play styles, the sneak attack archer, and builds on its strengths The Axis Unseen is more of an immersive sim than an RPG ( open in new tab), while Purkeypile places a greater emphasis on stealth outside of simple line-of-sight mechanics.

Footsteps on different surfaces alert enemies in a similar fashion to the Thief series, and enemies can track your footsteps as easily as you can track theirs. In an early development journal, Purkeypile even reveals the enemy's ability to smell you, and a small radius around the enemy that expands in response to wind conditions (opens in new tab).

You're not hunting Bambi's mama in this game, either; Purkeypile has an assortment of Nordic insectivores, like those in The Witcher's Skellige Isles and the rebooted God of War series, in the Future Games Show. The new trailer features a majestic stag with full antlers, a giant Lessie-esque woodman that makes a disgusted face when you shoot an arrow at it, and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-like decapitator, all bugs that seem to want to befriend you instead of hunting you.

It all takes place in a bleak open world of the "something terrible and unspeakable apparently happened here" kind. Sandstone monoliths and towering barnacles are everywhere, and in addition to the snowy forests of previous trailers, now there are morbid green wastelands and hazy red sandstorms. at the end of the FGS trailer, it is revealed that the general release date for "The Axis Unseen" is 2024.
