We Haven't Heard the Last of Lance Reddick in Destiny 2: Bungie Says "There's Still Performance in the Game"
[In a tribute (opens in new tab) to voice actor Lance Reddick, who passed away suddenly last week at age 60, Bungie confirmed that he "still has some acting left in the game."

Reddick had an impressive career in film and television and appeared in a number of high-profile games, including "Quantum Break," "Horizon Zero Dawn," and "Horizon Forbidden West." In games, however, he is arguably best known as Commander Zavala, a big name in "Destiny. Not only because of his stoic and commanding presence in the tower, but also because he was an enthusiastic player who clearly enjoyed interacting with his fans (opens in new tab).

"As the voice of Commander Zavala, the stalwart commander of the Vanguard, Lance brought to life a character that became virtually synonymous with Destiny itself," Bungie said in his latest "This Week at Bungie" (opens in new tab). For nearly a decade, Guardians around the world have found purpose and comfort in Zabala's presence, sustained by her unmistakable voice, full of strength, serenity, and nobility." [From the heartfelt messages on social media to the impromptu memorial gathering held in one of Zabala's towers overlooking the Last City. Lance's passion for what he loved as an actor, musician, gamer, and family man was reflected in the eyes and hearts of all who loved him"

.

One of the big questions left unanswered by Reddick's death is what to do with Zavala; as Bungie has said, the character is at the heart of Destiny, and Reddick is inseparable from Destiny, so it was decided that a replacement There have been quite a few calls for Zavala's proper exit, rather than a voice actor; Bungie has changed the casting of major characters in Destiny 2 in the past, with Nolan North replacing Nathan Fillion in "Cayde 6" and Season of the Splicer" with Mara Juno replacing Gina Torres as Ikola, but in both cases the actor in question voluntarily dropped out. Reddick's case is unique, and, let's face it, so is his voice.

Zavala is quite heavily involved in the current season of Destiny 2, and the next major expansion, Final Shape, will bring the light and dark saga (basically everything that has happened over the past decade, or the entire history of Destiny so far) to a close. While that is still some way off, it is a natural endpoint for Zabala's role in the game.

Bungay is not promising anything at the moment, but we will hear more from Zavala before any decisions are made.

"For now, we honor his presence with a performance he has yet to showcase in-game and in memories that will last a lifetime," Bungie wrote.

"We are deeply saddened by his passing, but very grateful for the time we spent together.

Bungie also added a tribute to Reddick to Destiny 2's login screen, calling him "iconic on screen and in person."

"His kindness and dedication shone through his work in film, television, and video games, including his portrayal of Commander Zavala." He will be greatly missed."
