A year ago I wrote that Steam Deck was my dream emulation system (opens in new tab). But nothing is easier than clicking "install" on Steam. And Dolphin, the wonderful GameCube and Wii emulator I've been using to play games like "Mario Galaxy" and "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" in 4K, will soon become a reality, officially appearing on Steam (opens in a new tab), where it's now available for free, and where I'm sure you'll be able to get it for free.
A Steam release of Dolphin has been in development for some time, but has not yet been made public; the screenshots used to showcase Dolphin on Steam do not depict copyrighted Gamecube or Wii games, and nowhere on the page does the word "Nintendo" is not used.
"At launch on Steam, we plan to publish a feature article detailing the process and features of the Steam release," Dolphin contributor MayImilae wrote on the official blog." We are delighted to finally tell the world about our endeavor. This is the result of months of work and we look forward to getting it into the hands of our users soon."
According to Dolphin developers on the community Discord, the Steam version will allow users to select a development build of the emulator; with the Steam deck in mind, we hope Dolphin's Steam release will bring a new controller-friendly UI We hope it will bring a new controller-friendly UI.
