The original "Resident Evil 4" took a year to reach 3 million units, but the remake did it in two days.

The latest nostalgic Resident Evil game is off to a strong start. According to Capcom (opens in new tab), the remake of "Resident Evil 4" has sold 3 million copies in just two days, and the publisher is understandably overjoyed.

The original "Resident Evil 4" is one of the most popular entries in the series, but it took nearly a year to achieve these sales. While there are many other factors to consider, such as the growing number of gamers and the number of platforms on which the remake was released, it is a strong indication that interest in Resident Evil has never been stronger. While the original version was initially released only on the GameCube and PS2, the remake has been released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

On PC, there have been many poor ports recently, even of major titles. For example, "The Last of Us Part I" was released this week in disappointing condition with a number of performance issues and bugs. But "Resident Evil 4" is different. As of this writing, it has gathered nearly 23,000 Steam reviews (open in new tab), 97% of which are favorable.

In our own 'Resident Evil 4' remake review (open in new tab), Rich had plenty of positive things to say, even if he did not like some of the modern changes." He said, "The Resident Evil 4 remake is a great game in its own right, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original.

Since "Resident Evil 4" was such a success, it seems inevitable that further remakes would appear, but we are now approaching a less beloved era of the series. Resident Evil 5" is where the series has reached its nadir, and while there are fond memories of co-op, it has yet to make up for the discomfort of the colonial style. On the other hand, "Resident Evil 6" is barely memorable, as I couldn't bring myself to play it sober.
