"Left 4 Dead" is one of the victims of Valve's almost comical antipathy toward "3," which launched two great titles in quick succession in 2008-2009. A particular favorite is the mod (opens in new tab) that added Jaden Smith's tweets as crazy doodles to the game (kudos also to the mod that replaced the Charger enemy type with Homer Simpson in a car (opens in new tab)).

Now, a new challenger is approaching. Eight, in fact: "Blue Archive," a mod for "Left 4 Dead 2" by HCHA (opens in new tab), which adds the protagonist and extensive style of Nexon Games' popular messy tactical RPG "Blue Archive," a "teacher" in a seemingly female-only school town as it will seek out that classic combination of: military action, romance, and friendship!" Yes, this is a work for geeks.

And now one for the infected mobs. This mod replaces the eight protagonists of Left 4 Dead with Blue Archive characters and adds a voice pack, Blue Archive's dynamic main menu, icons, and loading interface. This is it in action, and what a sight. Notice especially the music and safe room transitions.

If you want to see the girls blasting through the hordes on the concert stage at the end of "Dark Carnival," this is the player for you.

This is already hilarious. Also, kudos to the creator who, in response to the commenter's typical entitled request to add her favorite character, said, "Sorry, I'm busy (opens in new tab)" and presented a tutorial on how to do it yourself.

Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock Studios recently produced Back 4 Blood, which was touted as the spiritual successor to the series but lacked the magic (open in new tab) for many (incidentally, the studio also produced an unfinished 2016 of Left 4 Dead's final campaign (opens in new tab)). Meanwhile, Valve most recently returned to add a modest nod to Gnome Chompsky's IRL charity space flight (opens in new tab) and packaged a bunch of community content into a 2020 update (opens in new tab).
