Resident Evil" Fans Vote for Their Favorite Character, Choosing Leon

Ahead of the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, a recent poll in the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu asked fans of the survival horror series to choose their favorite and least favorite characters (from @bioranger_PT on Twitter (opens in new tab) ). Albert Wesker surprisingly took first place for most disliked character, with Nikolai Zinovaev of "RE3" in second place and Ricker in third. Interestingly, Wesker also ranked 6th in the favorite character poll.

First place in the Red 9 round was Leon Kennedy. He wears a pretty sweet jacket, but I have never had much of a liking for the man myself. In Famitsu's poll of the best Resident Evil games, RE4 and RE2, both of which featured him, came out on top. (RE4 came in first, RE2 remake second, and RE2 in its original flavor third.)

Jill Valentine, Leon's co-star in "RE2," was second, and Chris Redfield of Boulder Punch was third. The biggest surprise was that Piers Nivens of "RE6" did not appear at all. He was ahead of Hank, but Barry Burton was not even mentioned. Tragedy. The top 10 breakdown is as follows.

Famitsu readers were right on target when they chose the scariest scene in "Resident Evil," the baby monster sequence from "Resident Evil: The Village." That's right, terrifying. The scene in "Resident Evil 7" where Mia is attacked came in third.

Why wasn't the scene with the dog jumping in through the hallway window chosen, since it topped another question about the "most surprising scene"; second place went to the encounter with the tyrant in "RE2 Remake" and third place was the big reveal in the Village. Other polls asked what players found most appealing about Resident Evil (story won out over fear and character appeal) and which game was the scariest (RE7).

The remake of "Resident Evil 4" sold 3 million copies in two days, while the original took a year. It was well received by critics, with a review by Rich Stanton praising its exhilarating combat: This game was always a game of crowd control. Not to stiffen your back, to whittle down the seemingly invincible mob to the last man, to grit your teeth and blast away the sea of corpses and tentacles. Everything is thrown at you in the remake, and while you're gasping on the ground, the kitchen sink flies through the air at your head"

.

It's time to update our ranking of "Resident Evil" from worst to best.
