"Seven weapons, blood and gore, twisted music by Seepage & Psyko Syndikate, and a map that can blow everything up" "Slayer X": Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer" (opens in new tab) is a YouTube trailer (opens in new tab) on YouTube.

"Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer" (opens in a new tab) promises a YouTube trailer (opens in a new tab).

Say no more; Slayers X is the story of 14-year-old Zane Lofton, a prominent character in Hypnospace Outlaw (opens in new tab) (now a 38-year-old "Dollar$aver" store manager), creator of It's a retro-style FPS developed by Tendershoot. We first reported on "Slayers X" and its spiritual successor to Hypnospace, "Dream Settler" (opens in new tab), last April, and a demo of this spin-off FPS was released in June.

Hypnospace Outlaw is a near-term play on the old back catalog for me. Slayer X can be played with a fresh mind and still be enjoyable.

Like Bubba Blue describing the various ways to cook shrimp, the true connoisseur knows that the term "retro shooter" harbors an endless chain of variations and subgenres, like Duke Nukem or Blood, with very vertical and expansive levels, Doom is attempting to create real-world locations in a 2.5D rendering style, such as in "Duke Nukem" and "Blood.

Zane's suburban home, with its secret underground sewer base, is charming and detailed, and his hanging privates on the wall (with wallet chain), silly movie posters, and graffiti messages to his mother really won me over. "Slayers" is the first film to be released in the United States since " points for being the only shooter I've ever played, aside from "Counter-Strike: Source," and "Slayers" is the only shooter I've ever played, aside from "Counter-Strike: Source," that has a fully rendered, fully It features destructible PC towers with fully rendered 3D interiors.

My favorite weapon in the demo was the crossbow, which fires an explosive tube in a large, lazy arc, best reminiscent of Blood's signature dynamite. The other weapons are standard shooters, but the aesthetic gimmicks are fun, such as the shotgun being a "glass-shirt launcher" that can be used to break mirrors and windows to obtain ammunition.

The production of "Slayers" is in the style of the in-universe nĂ¼-metal band "Seepage" (open in new tab) from "Hypnospace Outlaw" for the soundtrack, with Zane delivering hilariously lame quips like Duke and Caleb The soundtrack is in the style of the in-universe new metal band Seepage (open in new tab) from "Hypnospace Outlaw. I also took great delight in the obvious trolling by the level designers, who sometimes fall into a bottomless pit and require a level restart to get out of it. I can't tell the difference between "[McGruber]" and "Don't Mess With the Zoltan," except that the first one is really good and the second one isn't. Slayer X nailed this unspeakable quality. It's the greatness of a dumb guy yelling like an idiot while knocking down poop monsters with his dual Berettas. It's not a mean-spirited parody, but rather a playful and fun celebration of this type of FPS and this type of man.

You can check out a demo of Slayers X for yourself or put it on your wish list on Steam (opens in new tab); according to a January tweet from Tendershoot (opens in new tab), Slayers X will be released "in the next few months". The game is complete, just needs polishing and optimization."
