The director of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is considering leaving Fairrun for a different setting for the sequel.

"Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of Thieves" (opens in new tab) was actually a pretty great film. Now that it has been a huge commercial and critical success, directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are already thinking about their next film.

"We absolutely want to continue telling stories in this world," Daley told Polygon (open in new tab) in a recent interview. The two are particularly excited about the possibility of introducing other characters, monsters, and locations from the D&D canon into the film series.

Goldstein said he chose the Forgotton Realm for "Thieves' Honor" "partly because it is a recognized medieval setting," but also because "there are so many worlds in D&D to explore. So does this mean that Torment's (open in new tab) Nameless One, with a foot in Planescape, might appear with a scarred head in Daley and Goldstein's next film?

But it might mean you'll see good old Drizzt Dolden sooner rather than later. According to Daley, he played with the idea of a Drizzt cameo during the development of Honor Among Thieves, but "the general consensus was not to go there yet." He noted, however, that Drizzt is "a popular character in the world and an exciting one to explore." Sounds like a concrete "might" to me, and I know a lot of people who would be overjoyed to see Drizzt in a movie.

I hope Daley and Goldstein follow the precedent set by "Baldur's Gate" and give the series enough respect that Drizzt's appearance in the sequel will end with the main cast beating him to death and stealing his sword (opens in new tab).

The two directors, however, have been tossing around ideas for a hypothetical sequel, but seem to have their minds set on one thing. Says Daley, "If we're lucky enough to do another one like this, we'd love to see the characters up their game." Specifically, the "bard" played by Chris Pine does not use spells in "In Honor of Thieves." So in the sequel, he may level up and start using magic."

Wizards of the Coast is very pleased with how "Dungeons & Dragons/Honor of Thieves" turned out and would probably be quite amenable to the directors' suggestions for a sequel. So we can only hope that the familiar D&D faces will appear in the future and that, if nothing else, they will painstakingly recreate this scene.
