Today, another hotfix (opens in new tab) was applied to the PC version of "The Last of Us" (opens in new tab), promising to address a number of issues related to Xbox controller input, graphics options, crashes, and more. However, the planned "camera jitter" fix is likely to take longer than expected, and unfortunately for gamers eager to embark on a great adventure, so is the Steam Deck verification.
"We had previously aimed to fix the camera jitter as it pertains to mouse movements. However, due to unforeseen issues, this fix was deferred to a later patch. Our team continues to work on future improvements and patches, including a final Steam Deck certification. We will keep you updated on future patch plans, including this Friday's patch."
Valve currently lists The Last of Us as "unsupported" on Steam Deck, which means that "some or all of this game does not currently work on mobile devices. That doesn't mean it won't work on Steam decks, and in fact Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckman has said it will work in December 2022 (opens in new tab).
But at this stage, it's like rolling the dice; it may or may not work properly. It will probably stay that way for some time to come: Naughty Dog said yesterday that "fixes and patches are a priority" for The Last of Us, so Steam Deck verification will have to wait (opens in new tab).
Full patch notes for this latest hotfix, which brings The Last of Us to version 1.0.1.7, are below:
Naughty Dog also released a GeForce Hotfix that addresses random crashing issues with RTX 30 series graphics cards driver (opens in new tab) (version 531.38), which Nvidia warns is "beta, optional, and provided as is," but Naughty Dog has stated that The Last of Us players should definitely should install it, he said.
The "camera jitter" issue is one of six known problems (opens in new tab) currently being tracked on the Naughty Dog website. The full list is as follows:
Hopefully this issue and at least a few others on the list will be resolved when the first major patch for the PC version of "The Last of Us" is released on Friday.
