Dr.Disrespect's Deadrop is moving to "less frequent updates, but much larger".

Midnight Society co-founder Guy Beahm (better known as mustachioed streamer Dr Disrespect) announced today that the studio will slow down the pace of "snapshot" build releases of Deadrop (open in new tab), with 2023 The studio announced that it will be making slower, but more substantial updates until.

"It's not year one anymore. A shift has occurred, an expansion has begun, and by 2023 we will be expanding upon that foundation."

"Every snapshot introduces significant new features and iterations to the game. But with expansion comes greater functionality and systems. This means snapshots will be less frequent, but larger in scale. We will spend close to three months of development time on each new release. And each drop brings a major evolution of gameplay and expansion of the tower.

Towers are the large buildings in which Dead Drop takes place, huge structures that become self-governing city-states, sucking toxins from the polluted earth's atmosphere, refining them into the powerful and addictive drug "space dust" and selling them around the world. It is a bit like the Peach Tree towers in the underrated movie "Dread" (open in new tab), but on a much larger scale, and without a powerful figure like Ma-Ma to control things, various factions fight for control of Dead Drop's towers and the resources they provide and the control of the resources it provides.

Deadrop's latest build, "snapshot 5," introduces the first sector of the tower called "Cold Storage" and adds armor, helmets, consumable healing items, and "tactical throwables" such as smoke grenades. Added: six "fully complete" weapons to play with, customizable with 13 attachments.

It also appears that Deadrop will be expanding its player base in the relatively near future. Currently, testers consist of those who have paid $50 for a "Founder's Access Pass (opens in new tab)" NFT, known in Deadrop terms as a "variant." The initial batch of 10,000 passes has sold out and no more passes have been issued, but Dr. Disrespect states in the video that "after this, everything will change and more than variants will drop in."
