Elliot Gindi, the voice actor who provides the English voice of Tignali in "Phantom of the Phantom," has admitted and apologized for sex crimes involving fans, although he denies preying on minors in the community.
The allegations were first revealed in a multi-page Google document (opens in new tab) posted earlier this week, which was shared on Twitter by Gindi's former Discord moderator, FretCore (opens in new tab). The document contains multiple screenshots of the sometimes explicit messages, including exchanges between Gindi, his Discord users, and the Discord moderators.
This documentation was corroborated by another former Discord moderator, phiotan (open in new tab), who posted another direct message in which he stated that Gindi "had personal relationships with three girls on the server." He also claimed that one of them was "bipolar or something" and that she was only 17, although she later apologized and said she was "always 18."
A short time later, Gindi released a lengthy statement on Twitlonger (opens in new tab) in which she said that she never intended to harm him and that "everything was consensual and safe." He also acknowledged that the contents of the Google document were legitimate.
"What is true: all the screenshots of the chat logs," Gindi wrote. 'Yes, all the silly sex talk too. Yes, he threatened to kill himself if it leaked out. I didn't think about the gravity of that. Sorry ."
He denied, however, that he "knowingly" had sexual interactions with underage fans or that he was "waiting for someone 15 years old to turn 18." He also stated that he had not engaged in inappropriate conduct with anyone other than the three people he admitted to in his conversation with PHIOTAN.
"I understand that what I did was wrong and inappropriate, and I tried to confess as much as I could to those I contacted," Gindi wrote.
"I reacted inappropriately to a situation that I felt was wanted, and in the process harmed many people. I understand that my actions have consequences, and I pledge to accept my responsibility as I strive to be better."Gindi's apology did not go over well with the other Phantom Impact voice actors. Brian Knickerbocker (opens in new tab), the English voice of Fu Tao, tweeted that he was "outraged" and that "there must be consequences for his actions." Stephanie Sutherland (opens in new tab), who plays Jean Gunhildr, said she was "disgusted and upset, to say the least." Numerous others expressed similar sentiments.
Zach Aguilar (opens in new tab), who voices the male player character Aether, said on Twitter that he was "disappointed and angry. 'I have deleted my stream with Elliott and will no longer engage with him. I refuse to give any platform to such a person. To exercise power in this way over a fan is disgusting and shameful. My heart breaks for the victims of this situation."
"My heart goes out to all the victims affected by Elliot's case," tweeted Xiao actor Lila Berzins (open in new tab). 'Taking advantage of a fan or anyone in this way is brutal and disgusting. Sending love and support to all affected."
Not surprisingly, many are calling for Gindi to be removed from the role, which seems likely.
"We deeply regret the harm and damage caused to our fans, gamers, community, and everyone affected," said HoYoVerse, the developer of "Phantom of the Opera," in a statement sent to GamesRadar (opens in new tab). Both our internal team and our external partners, including our voice acting studio, are working on an urgent solution." We will keep you posted on our progress."
