HyperX's January keycap was a cute winter kitty.

General
HyperX's January keycap was a cute winter kitty.

Bad news for all you cute keycap fans out there: the monthly collectible keycaps (opens in new tab) that HyperX released at the end of January sold out quickly. This month's keycap features Kitty in winter clothing, and if you're anything like me, you're probably a little disappointed that you missed your chance to get your hands on this cute kitty.

The HyperX Cozy Cap Coco features a little striped tabby that sits on the key of your choice. This light brown kitty has darker stripes, a small pink nose and ears, and a white tummy that is just begging to be rubbed up against you. Sitting on your Escape key, it is likely to knock something over.

Around Coco's neck is a teal scarf with knit line detail and snowflake pattern, with his name printed on the back. On one side of his head is a HyperX-themed beanie with a matching white pompom. Honestly, at this point I'm not sure if I want the keycap or if I want to steal this cat's winter drops and make them my own. I can't get either, and it's already summer in the southern hemisphere.

Coco may have slipped through my fingers, but she's still very cute and a welcome reminder of this keycap collection HyperX is working on. Had I known this cute scarf-wrapped Coco was going to be available, I would have looked more closely at the site. With new caps coming out every month, I can't wait to see what's next. The teased silhouettes hint at a frog, a duck with headphones, and a Shiba Inu.

Notably, these HyperX keys are 3D printed using HP's color 3D printing technology. They are really cool, but in my experience they look 3D printed and not as smooth as they are in the promo image.

I happened to pick up a keycap printed by HyperX at PAX Aus. (opens in new tab) These caps include the 20th birthday cake keycap that you can see in the display photo at the top of this page. These pictures look pretty accurate to the final product to my eye so you can get a fair idea of the product you will receive.

Still, if HyperX's monthly keycap releases aren't to your liking, why not dive into the world of artisanal customizable keycaps (opens in new tab). You'll find everything from finger-biting dinosaurs (opens in new tab) to friendly rubber ducks (opens in new tab). Most gaming keyboards (opens in new tab) support swappable caps, so you can customize them as much as you want. Even if it's not a cute kitten in a tiny winter coat.
