Life is Strange studio packs a "little glimpse" of gaming nostalgia into its next film.

Don't Nod, the studio behind Life is Strange, recently teased a new game in development at its Montreal studio, which apparently takes us back in time to the distant past of the early 1990s.

"Let me show you a little bit of what Don't Nod Montreal is working on!" The studio tweeted." Brings back childhood memories?"

The image in question is by no means subtle. In the foreground is an old-fashioned video game console that bears a striking resemblance to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which was released in Japan in 1990 and in North America in 1991. The console is connected to a CRT television via a colorful composite cable and sits atop a relatively modern (I said modern) VCR. To the left of the TV is a rack full of videotapes and some game cartridges as well.

The wooden paneling behind the TV also has a distinctly distant period look: my mother's basement still retains the same look.

What's interesting about this image is the candy on the table. It looks like an open pack of Starbursts, but I don't think it has any particular connection to the 90s: "epop" means "epic" in French. (Don't Nod is headquartered in Paris, and French is the official language of Montreal.) Either they are suggesting an Epic Games Store exclusive, or this candy is so good: ...... I'm not into conspiracy theories, so I'm guessing the latter, but Don't Nod is releasing "Twin Mirror" in 2020 as a one-year Epic exclusive (opens in new tab).

The tweet also points to a job posting for Don't Nod Montreal (opens in new tab), but unfortunately, there are no further hints as to what the studio is cooking up; "Life is Strange," "Tell Me Why," "Twin Given the studio's history with games like "Mirror" and the nostalgic vibe that immediately springs from today's images, it's a safe bet that it will be some sort of character-driven narrative adventure. A bold prediction, though.

Don't Nod is also currently working on a new action RPG called "Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden" (opens in a new tab), a new action RPG also in the works, in which a pair of former ghost hunters are cursed to turn one of them into a spirit in The story is a grim tale of two former ghost hunters searching for a cure for a curse that has turned one of them into a spirit. It will be released later this year.
