MMO player, grinding mini-game tokens for 8 years, blows everything up in 49 seconds and breaks in-game XP tracker

First reported by GamesRadar (opens in new tab), an old-school RuneScape player with the handle NC State (presumably not an official representative of the Raleigh-based university), the infamous mini game, Brimhaven Finally seeking retribution for eight years of chipping away at the obstacle course, as outlined by Reddit friend user h0dgep0dge (opens in new tab), NC State finally made his journey home, submitting all the rewards in the bank at once, with RuneScape's less than optimal Agility skill, earning 178 million XP in less than a minute, and despite NC State advancing at a pace of 10.8 billion per hour, he was censored at 2.147 billion.

Agility in RuneScape is not the sexiest skill in the long-running MMO. In-game it is associated with cool rogues like Graceful Outfit (open in new tab), but mechanically it just increases your stamina and gives you access to various shortcuts throughout the map. One of the main ways to level this up is in the Brimhaven Agility Arena, a sort of skill-bender mini-game.

My experience with RuneScape is limited to a failed attempt to get my middle school bully to do as I did in 2004 and return to playing Paper Mario instead. But from what I've seen of YouTube guides like this one (which opens in a new tab), I'll click on the grid-based arena, highlight the pillars, and watch the cute skill-check cutscenes where my character walks a tightrope or dodges a blade trap. For once, you might as well do it correctly; NC State has put in thousands of hours since 2015. The project spans three U.S. presidents.

From NC State's description, it actually doesn't sound so bad." I would add that Brimhaven is a laid-back place, or at least it could be if you don't do obstacles while you wait." He explained to user ElMico, who estimated that the project would take roughly 4,800 hours (opens in new tab). "I spend a lot of time watching YouTube, reading the news, and browsing the web. I rarely went to the computer just to do agility, but I always had Runescape up and running."

He also said, "I was always on the go.

In other words, it's more about patience and commitment than raw willpower and endurance. Just like tending a garden. After all those years of hard work, what benefits can NC State expect from the god-awful 200 million agility XPs? Stamina that never wears off? The "forbidden top secret shortcut" Well, realistically, Runescape's skill ceiling is only level 99, or 13 million XP; NC State is fair enough, but I'm wondering what's playing in the background while I watch YouTube...
