'Dead Space' Fans Think "Undecipherable" New Game+ Logs Suggest Future Remake

Like many recent games, the remake of "Dead Space" (opens in a new tab) has a "New Game+" mode that becomes available after the first playthrough. This allows players to start a new game with all weapons, suits, and upgrades already acquired loaded, ostensibly making for an easier experience.

One of the NG+ logs is a scribble of marker symbols that seems "indecipherable," basically dead space hieroglyphics. It's basically Dead Space hieroglyphics: this is a letter-for-letter exchange that was deciphered (open in new tab) shortly after the original Dead Space was released.

(If in doubt, see the GameFAQs (open in new tab) thread from 2011.)

Fortunately, redditor GingyYouTube (opens in new tab) has already deciphered it for those, like me, who are interested but don't want to bother deciphering it themselves. There are a few mistakes in the translation, but the following comments have corrections.

The message in the game goes like this:

And this is the translation:

They walk in white Without being dyed red. They command the living They shepherd the dead

At the touch of their fingers We froze in our tracks They are the answers They are the will

Beyond the stars Our brothers are waiting. Oracles, save us From the fate of mankind

The message is easily understood, but what it actually means is another matter. Several people in this thread believe that the first line is a reference to the Oracles (open in new tab), a mysterious high-class cult of unknown origin and motive that appears in the "Dead Space 2: Severed" DLC.

The second tier is also thought to refer to the planet Tau Volantis (opens in new tab), which appears in Dead Space 3, "a planet that has been the subject of a number of high-profile cults, including the Oracles, whose origins and motives are unknown.

It's all very deep lore stuff, but the general consensus is that references to events that occurred in later Dead Space games means that EA is also planning a remake of those games, or at least is open to the idea, This theory is based on the idea that the Dead Space games are the first to be remade. This theory is further bolstered by the earlier discovery of another NG+ text log (open in new tab) that mentions the Titan space station "Sprawl" where "Dead Space 2" was set.

The success of the "Dead Space" remake (open in new tab) seems to have increased the likelihood of a similar update of "Dead Space 2" or "Dead Space 3" or even a sequel beyond that. Still, it's cool that EA had this remake in mind (or at least a reasonable theory) long before it saw the light of day.
