The Day Before" developers change course again, announcing a 10-minute "gameplay extravaganza" on Thursday.

The release of "raw gameplay footage" of The Day Before, which was scheduled for January, was reportedly canceled at the last minute due to trademark issues (opens in new tab), which also forced a lengthy delay in its release. This time, however, the show may be resumed: Levitate, moderator of The Day Before Discord (opens in new tab), announced today that the gameplay will be released on February 2.

"Get ready to be immersed in a world of pure hype as we release a 10-minute gameplay extravaganza on our YouTube channel. Tune in tomorrow for an experience like no other." Trust us, this is a reveal not to be missed! Stay tuned for more updates and information."

The surprise announcement of the gameplay reveal is the latest development in a saga that is dubious to say the least. As staff writer Morgan Park noted in an article (opens in new tab) summarizing the situation so far, "The Day Before" was scheduled to be released on March 1, but we last saw the real thing in April 2021, or roughly two years ago, when a heavily scripted It was a heavily scripted gameplay demo.

The nature of the game also remains very vague, and one of the Discord mods (not Levitate, by the way) recently came under fire for expressing doubts about the game's existence. Last week, developer Fntastic further confused the situation by saying that the launch delay had been planned (opens in new tab) even before the trademark issue.

Today's announcement on the Discord does not set the focus of the situation: there is no mention of an upcoming release on any of DayBefore's official social media channels, although Levitate has received permission to post the announcement on the Discord, He declined to say whether this would be the "raw gameplay" video promised in January, saying, "I'll leave that mystery to your imagination until it is released tomorrow!" He stated. More confusingly, he also declined to say when that footage would air; there is no countdown placeholder video on Fntastic's YouTube (opens in new tab) channel, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It is also interesting to note that the graphic announcing the upcoming gameplay release is just text over old screenshots. That's not necessarily important, but after all the controversy, I think a new gameplay reveal warrants a new image, if only to solidify the idea that something "new" is indeed coming.

However, it appears that the reveal will happen: in an email sent to PC Gamer a few hours after the information was circulated on Discord, a representative from Fntastic announced that on February 2 at 10:00 AM Pacific Standard Time, Fntastic's YouTube channel (opens in a new tab) will be showing 10 minutes of The "uncensored" gameplay will be available on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
