No more new content for "Back 4 Blood" as Turtle Rock shifts its focus to a completely new game.

A little more than a year after its release, "Back 4 Blood" (open in new tab) is officially over. Developer Turtle Rock Studios announced today that it is "working on the next big game."

"What a great year 2022 has been for us," the studio wrote (opens in new tab). First of all, I want to thank everyone who helped make "Back 4 Blood" what it is today. With the three expansions of Tunnels of Terror, Children of the Worm, and River of Blood, we have been on an amazing adventure together beyond the walls of Fort Hope. This phase of our battle against the Ride is now drawing to a close.

"Turtle Rock Studios is actually quite small for a studio making AAA games. We don't have the manpower to continue making content for Back 4 Blood while spinning up another game, yes, another game! With that in mind, it's time to get our heads out of our asses and get back to the lab and start working on our next big project."

We gave Back 4 Blood an excellent 88% rating in our October 2021 review (opens in new tab), calling it "an outstanding FPS that sets a new standard for co-op zombie murder fests."

User reviews on Steam (opens in new tab) were "for and both ways," it was somewhat poorly received and far from the huge success of Left 4 Dead 2, which, despite being over a decade old, still has a much larger player base. However, it still managed to rack up a significant number of players (open in new tab) on Steam, and Turtle Rock kept things moving through three expansions that were released in 2022.

While there will be no new content in the future, Turtle Rock has stated that Back 4 Blood itself is not going away. In fact, it will continue to be playable through Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra Premium, and of course, it will be available for purchase on Steam. Of course, you can also buy it on Steam. The team is still around, but they haven't talked about what they're going to do next.

"We love interacting with you and talking about the game, so we'll be on our official Twitter (opens in new tab), Instagram (opens in new tab), Facebook (opens in new tab), website (opens in new tab) But you can also find us on subreddit (opens in new tab) and Discord (opens in new tab). We may be a little quieter in the short term, but we promise to come back bigger, bolder, and better than ever!" Turtle Rock said.
