Enhance Hitman's Freelancer Mode with this Transformable Map Mod!

Hitman's new roguelike freelancer mode (opens in new tab) is quite excellent, giving you the opportunity to hunt down Agent 47 criminals using nearly every map from the first, second, and third games. But what if that's not enough? Then you'll have to install Hitman's Freelancer Variations mod (opens in new tab).

Discovered by Dominic Tarason (opens in new tab), the Freelancer Variations mod enhances Hitman's new mode by throwing different versions of each possible destination into the mix of levels. You can freelance on every map variation you can think of, including the Hokkaido Snow Festival and the Dartmoor Garden Show. It even adds "alternate time zones" for maps where "bonus missions did not exist."

It's not just the lighting that has changed. Uploader Chucky (opens in new tab) says he tried to "bundle at least one ET/Special Assignment" with each new variation. There are also "little bonuses" and Easter eggs tucked into the added stages, promising a greater variety of NPCs and "unexpected cameos" at the new levels.

The Freelancer Variations mod requires Hitman's Simple Mod Framework (opens in new tab) to function properly, which (as the name implies) is very easy to install: just download the executable file and activate Just download the executable file and activate it. You also need to download OrfeasZ's Modding SDK (opens in new tab) and drop it into your Hitman 3/Retail folder. Once that is done, just grab the Freelancer Variations .dll and .json files from Nexus Mods and drop them into the Mods folder in the Hitman 3/Retail directory.

Then launch the game, check "FreelancerVariations" in the mod list, and you're off to the murder race; according to Chucky, there may still be "major bugs" lurking in the current version of this mod. There have been several comments from users who have encountered glitches and crashes, as not all map variants have been verified to work perfectly. However, it is not that big of a deal to uninstall the mod if you encounter problems. Also, if a particular map variant is causing the problem, you can download a new .json file that disables it on the variant picker website (opens in a new tab).
