Why are Tiger Woods' golf balls grenades?

This weekend, a tweet from the podcast "Super Pod Saga" (opens in new tab) went viral: "What is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

It turns out that people remember a lot of weird, interesting, and in some cases surprising trivia. It all begins with the most amazing surprise of all, by Jan Bart Van Beek, studio director and art director of Guerrilla Games.

One note on this. Tiger Woods last played as the face of EA's PGA Tour in 2013, after which the series would go on a year-long hiatus before returning with the first film in Frostbite Engine: Rory McIlroy's PGA Tour (2015), in which Woods' ranking plummeted Woods was not featured in the film because of his decline. Of course, this is not to say that Woods' avatar was not used in the development.

The tweet really got a response, with tens of thousands of replies and quoted tweets. I did not read through all of them, but here are some of the highlights of the text.

Furry_Wall: (open in new tab) "Runescape cows cannot be poisoned. This is because their "moo" prioritizes in-game timers over damage.

Iron_Jugulis: (opens in new tab) "With Spore's official Dr. Pepper robot parts, it is entirely possible to create creatures with no social status at all." "Trying to socialize these creatures will crash the game."

Berds_n_arts: (open in new tab) "Angry Birds has 39 discontinued games and 19 cancelled games." (Corroborated by the Angry Birds wiki. (open in new tab))

Thatbluecatboy: (open in new tab) "In Age of Empires, while playing on an i486 PC, I was holding down the turbo button to scale the CPU from 133hz to 100hz, and at the perfect moment the maximum unit If you queue a unit that breaks the maximum limit, all units on the map will be reassigned to a random player in the game."

This has been known for a while, but is still fun to recall.Gavinatorize2 (open in new tab): "After Snake lost his eye in Snake Eater, he could only see the left part of the screen in first person view and the 3D slider in the 3DS version no longer works."

Altis

Altis69: (opens in new tab) "In Halo CE, blooming is not increased by firing weapons, but by holding the trigger. In other words, if you hold the trigger while reloading/overheating, the weapon will start firing at full bloom."

GeeVipah: (open in new tab) "In Art of Fighting 3, if the NeoGeo's internal system clock coincides with a character's birthday, that character will receive a significant buff on that day."

Christina Tasty: (opens in new tab) "Marlon Brando's last performance was probably an easter egg in the 'Godfather' game. He was old and needed an oxygen mask, but still recorded some lines. When Don Corleone is in the hospital, you can track back and listen to his lines.

GothieCollie: (opens in new tab) "The original Xbox port of Half-Life 2 has an exclusive glitch in Red Letter Day where you can kill Alix by placing a barrel behind her by the vending machine . Unlike the later death of Alyx, the cutscene lasts a bit, with Alyx pausing awkwardly where he should be before crashing."

Imagine an Amiga hacker breaking into Mad Professor Mariarti's files and being greeted with "hello hacker fucker (opens in new tab)." It's hard not to imagine that in Shodan's voice.

DrakennierPT: (opens in new tab) "There is a fully modeled 3D file of Neo in the Matrix in the Drakengard database."

KabscOrner: (opens in new tab) "Since Monster Hunter has no voice actors and English is not a language with pronunciation guides, the first time "Lasalos" was spoken out loud was in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. "

Naturally, there are some great Bethesda creations, showcasing both the studio's originality and its vulgar tendencies.

There are also absolute mysteries, like the mug destined to float forever in the void in "Portal 2."

Or the test map for "Half-Life 2" found in a pre-release leak.

A strange Daytona 2 curiosity:

Every time I try to finish writing this article, I come across another article that I just had to include, like this one from Josheola: (open in new tab) "The creators of NBA Jam, big fans of the Detroit Pistons, rigged the game to give them an advantage in beating the Chicago Bulls. In a close game, if a Bulls player hit a last-second shot, it would always miss."

Truly unbeatable. Let me end with one of my own favorite video game trivia: Remember Croc" (opens in a new tab). It all started with a pitch to Nintendo for a 3D Yoshi game. I must say that Big N made the right decision.
