Reality! Microsoft to End Windows 10 License Sales This Month

As of January 31, 2023, Microsoft will no longer sell digital licenses of Windows 10 from its website. So if you plan to build your own Windows 10 PC, you'd better get started now.

The folks at PC World (opens in new tab) first spotted the news in a footnote at the bottom of several Windows 10 product pages (opens in new tab) on the Microsoft Store website: "January 31, 2023 will be the last day this Windows 10 will be available for download; Windows 10 will be supported with security updates to protect your PC from viruses, spyware, and other malware until October 14, 2025."

It states.

Importantly, Microsoft will not end support for Windows 10 for another couple of years, so existing Windows 10 users need not worry and will not miss out on important new features like DirectStorage (open in new tab).

You will still be able to find Windows 10 licenses at third-party retailers. Let's face it, you were buying cheap keys from elsewhere anyway. That said, there are only a limited number of keys available, so prices are likely to skyrocket here and there.

This means that system builders and Windows 10 holdovers will have a difficult time avoiding Windows 11 (open in new tab) for the time being. Recent updates have added new features to Windows 11, making the OS suitable for DX11 and DX10 gaming. Personally, I'm a big fan of some of the quality-of-life additions that have been added in recent months, such as file explorer tabs (open in new tab).

So, for 10 more days, you can still opt for Windows 10 Pro for $139 (opens in new tab) at Microsoft. I probably shouldn't, but for now the option is still open.
