General
The studio behind "Total War" is working on a FPS.

Creative Assembly is the company that makes the Total War games and also once made the 2014 GOTY "Alien: Isolation" (opens in new tab). The name of the company is Hyenas. Despite some press and early playtesters playing the game last year, publisher Sega has not released the game publicly since it was announced. [Creative Assembly is ramping up playtesting from January through April, with the first of four alpha weekends beginning tomorrow on the 20th. You can sign up for the playtest (opens in a new tab) on the official Hienas website. Note that participation is not guaranteed (I myself have not yet been invited). Here's the full alpha schedule:

PC Gamer's feature producer Mollie Taylor spotted some potential for Hyenas when she sat in on a 20-minute preview (opens in new tab) at Gamescom last year, but it's pretty cool He noted that while it looks like a hero FPS, it is hampered by a deadly amount of "meta-cringe." It's colorful and over-the-top, but also deeply, deeply chilling."

I'm tired of hearing about hyenas. I want to play it, or at least see how it actually works. Is the combat all about momentum and movement mechanics like in "Apex Legends" or is it chunky health bars and cooldown management like in "Overwatch" ......" I know it's an extraction shooter, so maybe the pace will be like "Hunt: Showdown" or "Escape From Tarkov" where you set your own goals and then leave the game early when you're satisfied.

The only official gameplay I could find of Hienas is a comically brief 13-second video shared by the game's official Twitter last month. This is, as advertised, a "first glimpse" of zero-g combat.

In any case, don't expect the full gameplay to be released this weekend. All previous playtesters had to sign NDAs restricting them from sharing footage or talking about the game, and this time will be no different. Nevertheless, it is almost certain that someone somewhere will ignore this restriction and upload a full match of "Hyena," so keep an eye out.
