General
Callisto protocol adds NG+ and can be immune during leapfrogging.

"Callisto Protocol" has been updated to include a "New Game+" mode (opens in a new tab). In this mode, players can carry over their progress and take on tougher run-throughs, and can recover all their previous gear at the first reforge station.

There is also a small gameplay tweak, players will no longer take damage when jumping over obstacles. Vaults are animated very slowly, so you can get hit a lot while doing it. Interestingly, in Resident Evil 4, the game that became the North Star of Dead Space and the Callisto Protocol, jumping vaults are implemented this way, and Leon enjoys a brief period of invincibility, often saving his butt.

This change, along with a number of specific fixes for the sort of glitches that had existed for some time, produced some amusing videos (opens in new tab) of poor Jacob falling through the landscape at one point. One fix, however, has not yet been made, according to player reports: according to Striking Distance, they have fixed an issue with an achievement ("The Protocol is About Life") that was not popping for some players. The problem still seems to be there.

PC-specific fixes include fixing a scene that was causing crashes for some players, remapping the "Skip Cinematics" button, eliminating a long hitch that was happening when raytraced shadows were enabled, and our old friend, "General performance optimization".

We liked Callisto Protocol well enough in our review (opens in new tab) to describe it as "an engaging, linear sci-fi horror." But not everyone was a fan of PC, due to the stuttering problems that were prevalent at launch (long since fixed (open in new tab)) and the unrelenting sequence in which avatars are killed over and over again (now skippable (open in new tab)). With over 2 million units sold but it didn't live up to the publisher's tremendously high expectations (opens in new tab). If you are a fan, the official web page is worth a look. There are many documentaries and audio series (opens in new tab).
