Stardew Valley's big 1.5 update is finally coming to mobile, and creator Eric Barone says 1.6 will follow.

Stardew Valley's 1.5 update made quite a splash when it came to PC in late 2020. Not only was it a traditional update, but it was "the complete expansion (opens in new tab) that I had always wanted," including an all-new beach farm, a host of new customization options, and the biggest surprise of all, an entirely new explorable area called Ginger Island, said Lauren Morton, a farmer within Stardew. Now, more than two years later, that update has finally come to the mobile version.

"The mobile version 1.5 update has been submitted for iOS and Android and will be available to users over the next few days," Eric Barone, sole developer of Stardew Valley, tweeted early on January 7 (opens in new tab). 'Some Android users should already have the update available.'

Unfortunately, the release of the 1.5 update on mobile did not go completely smoothly. Immediately after its release, various types of problems began to be reported, including the UI being too small, toolbar issues, and most importantly, crashing issues. A patch (opens in new tab) fixing the major problems was submitted shortly after the 1.5 update.

Despite the troubles, Barone took pains to reassure everyone that the situation was not permanent.

Barone clearly has his hands full dealing with the problems with the mobile version of Stardew Valley 1.5, but the fact that everyone involved appears friendly, understanding, and patient, despite his Twitter feed being filled with problems and requests for help, is a relationship: no rude requests or death threats are anywhere to be found, and Barone said that the next full patch for the mobile version of Stardew Valley 1.5 should be released on January 10, but that "game-breaking bugs and crashes (opens in new tab)" must be prioritized, and that small He stated that some issues, such as UI problems, would take longer to fix.

Speaking of priorities, there may be hope that the launch of the 1.5 update for mobile platforms may finally give Barone the opportunity to shift his focus to his new project "Haunted Chocolatier" (opens in new tab) Maybe! Maybe so! But maybe not. Barone said in November 2022 that "Stardew Valley" will not end with the 1.5 update (open in new tab), and the mobile version will likely do the same.

"The 1.5 mobile version is, to some extent, a completely new rewrite of the mobile app," Barone tweeted shortly after the update was submitted for approval. This was necessary for a number of reasons, but it does mean that some new bugs may arise."

"One of the benefits of this new app rewrite is that it will be easier to update mobile in the future (1.6 or who knows...) .

Baron confirmed in a later tweet that there are "no plans" (open in new tab) for multiplayer on mobile, but I wouldn't count it out completely: he will still be working on "Stardew Valley" on all platforms for a long I'm sure he'll be working on "Stardew Valley" on all platforms for a long time yet.
