In December, we did something PC Gamer has never done in its 30-year history. We awarded a runner-up for Game of the Year.

The silver medal went to Marvel's Midnight Suns (available on Steam for $40), a strategy card RPG/campaign game from Firaxis, best known for creating XCOM. Midnight Suns was released just as we were finishing up our award selections, and since the game took over 65 hours to complete, it was difficult for the editorial team to complete it during the end of the year, which is just an unnaturally busy holiday season.

So we were in a bit of a dilemma. The four of us who had completed "Midnight Suns" loved it, but we were already discussing the fisticuffs and drag-outs that would determine PC Gamer's GOTY, as well as the awards for best RPG, best strategy game, and best design. Now that the magazine's deadline had passed, we couldn't just rescind the awards we had chosen. Wedge, "our solution," had a new award that would be posted online only.

Was "Midnight Suns" better than "Eldenring" "Eldenring" was a generational RPG, the culmination of the substantial legacy of "Dark Souls" and a sprawling epic. But we felt strongly that "Midnight Suns" was perhaps the best comic book game adaptation ever, and one of our favorites of the year.

Given our enthusiasm for this quasi-epic, it was surprising that "Midnight Suns" sold for 33% off just one month after its release.

But if you haven't found it yet, consider this a PSA: our second favorite game of 2022 is $20 off on Steam. In fact, until January 16, all tiered editions of Midnight Suns are 33% off. Here's a quick breakdown:
