Forza Horizon 5 developer developing "premium open-world game" at new studio.

A new studio from the talented crew behind the amazing "Forza Horizon 5," winner of the 2021 Best Open World award (open in new tab), was born today.Mike Brown, the creative director of "Forza Horizon 5," has been working on a new game for the company for the past two years. Maverick Games, led by "Forza Horizon 5" creative director Mike Brown, who is obviously a big fan of "Top Gun," announced its formation today.

In addition to Brown, the studio's founders include several former Playground Games developers, former Sumo Digital co-studio head Harinder Sangha, and EA experience design director Ellie Marshall.

The announcement is accompanied by a canned statement from Brown, which says all the typical clichés of a studio announcement.

"Our goal is to make Maverick Games a studio that people love. For players, we are already producing exciting, ultra-high quality titles, and for developers, we are building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all, be Maverick."

Of course, mavericks are poor team players and probably the last thing you want in a highly collaborative development studio. Oh no, I've become the police chief in an 80's cop movie who tells the hero he's "out of control". Maverick Games, give me a gun and a badge. [It's] a premium open-world game for consoles and PCs." That's all for now, but it's clear that this team has a wealth of experience when it comes to open-world blockbusters, and while there weren't many surprises in Forza Horizon 5, it's one of the most polished and energetic open-world games out there. More of the same, please.

His former employer, Playground Games, is still supporting "FH5," while another team is working on a reboot of "Fable" (opens in new tab).
