Nvidia introduces RTX 4080 to GeForce Now, supporting DLSS 3 and 240Hz mode

Nvidia's GeForce Now game streaming service is now available with a large number of RTX 4080 graphics cards. This means that it can play frames up to 240 Hz on a variety of platforms.

The new RTX 4080 "Superpod" for GeForce Now will be deployed in data centers starting in late January and in various locations around the world as the year progresses. If you are fortunate enough to receive the first batch of RTX 4080 GPUs, you will be able to harness the ray-tracing power of the Ada Lovelace architecture and DLSS 3 on your devices via the cloud.

DLSS 3 can definitely make a big difference in the streaming experience, ideally helping to keep CPU utilization low and allowing these server pods to deliver higher performance. That said, there is also a new upgrade available to address latency: the Competitive Reflex 240Hz mode.

Nvidia Reflex (opens in new tab) is the company's latency breaking and measuring technology that has been on the desktop for some time now. With this new Competitive Reflex 240Hz mode, Nvidia is trying to bring such competitive speedups to the cloud in hopes of reducing latency in cloud gaming as much as possible.

Nvidia has announced an end-to-end latency of 34ms in Fortnite with the new mode enabled, which I must say is a rather impressive number; as Nvidia says, this is faster than the Xbox Series X in 60Hz mode! It should be noted, however, that frame rate is directly correlated to latency. In other words, the higher the frame rate, the lower the latency. However, there are other factors such as input latency, monitor latency, web connection latency, etc.

You must be a Now Ultimate member to access RTX 4080 Superpods in the cloud. For existing RTX 3080 members, no need to worry. If you live near an updated data center, you will be automatically upgraded to the RTX 4080 Ultimate tier shortly. New users can sign up for $20/month, and if capacity is available, new capacity will come online during Q1 in Europe and North America.

Other big news from Nvidia's CES 2023 Special Broadcast is the new regions coming to GeForce Now. These include South Africa, Armenia, and Malaysia.
