Acer is pleased to announce the release of its new OLED display, the first of its kind in the world.
[Acer is pleased to announce the release of two new LCD monitors, the "Predator X45" and the "Predator X27U". The two models will be available at mass retailers nationwide starting Friday, February 12, 2012. [For those who favor 1440p (open in new tab), it's great to see more and more high refresh rate QHD gaming monitors being announced: the Predator X45 is a huge 45" curved ultrawide UWQHD OLED, while the Predator X27U is a flat 27 inch QHD OLED.

Both monitors have a refresh rate of 240 Hz and a response time of 0.01. This is ideal if you need a monitor for competitive gaming but want a higher resolution to match your speed.

Normally, if you wanted a higher refresh rate on a gaming monitor, you were stuck with 1080p. But not anymore; Acer and others are telling hardcore PC gamers that they no longer have to compromise, as long as they have the money.

The Predator X45's OLED panel supports HDR10 and should provide good contrast with a peak brightness of 1000 nits. In addition, it has an HDMI 2.0 port in addition to a DisplayPort 1.4 port, so you can connect a gaming console; the X27U is a good choice if you need a monitor that is a bit more discreet.

The FreeSync display includes a USB Type-C USB hub for charging gadgets. I know it's small, but I can't help but shout that more gaming monitors need this, so thank you, Acer.

The Acer Predator X45 will be available in the second quarter of this year for $1,699. If you're feeling deja vu, it's because LG recently announced a 3440 x 1440p 45-inch curved OLED gaming monitor at 240Hz; the Predator X27U will be available at the same launch time for $1,099.
