Gaming notebooks with Nvidia RTX 4090 will be available on February 8 starting at $1,999

As expected, Nvidia announced during its CES 2023 stream (opens in new tab) that mobile versions of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070 will be coming to gaming laptops this year; RTX 4080 and the beastly RTX 4090 have also already entered the mobile gaming realm as "a new class of enthusiast notebooks."

CES 2023 is now a bonanza for next-generation notebooks, and we can expect countless articles on powerful gaming laptops to be posted throughout the week. Impressively, Nvidia has managed to pack its latest and bulkiest Ada GPU innovations into a very small and portable machine. In fact, gaming laptops that tout mobile machines with Max-Q GPUs and impressive form factors considering the size of desktop PCs will hit us from all directions this week.

Accompanying this announcement are four new Max-Q innovations: DLSS 3, low-voltage GDDR6 memory, on-chip memory optimization, and something called Tri-speed memory (dynamic power switching for GPU memory).

As Nvidia states, "up to twice as fast as the PlayStation 5, but one-sixth the size," I am looking forward to the possibility of gaming on my 14" laptop this year. The more affordable end of the Ada laptop market starts at $999 and will be available on February 22. [But before that, we'll get a top-end system; Nvidia says the RTX 4080 and 4090 gaming laptops "have the power to run up to three 4K gaming monitors at up to 60fps and are capable of running professional-grade enough power to run driving simulators," it claims.

We'll believe that when we see it. We admit that these look pretty promising, but the numbers Nvidia is touting are theoretical performance estimates, not actual benchmarks. Keep in mind.

The flagship laptops, which start at $1,999, will begin hitting the market on February 8. You might as well get ready to download your favorite "professional-grade driving simulator."
