Twitch Returns to Online After Disruption

Update: Twitch is now back to full functionality, at least on my end; Twitter support says on Twitter (opens in new tab) that they are still "working on a fix."

Original post Happy New Year, Twitch is down. As of Tuesday morning, my homepage is particularly strange, with several key elements of the site, including the homepage carousel, not loading properly or disappearing entirely. I also seem to be signed out of my account and the site is more or less unusable at the moment. I can't see who I'm following, but I can see clips that Twitch thinks I'll like (which I rarely do).

Twitch announced on Twitter that they are "investigating an issue with multiple areas of Twitch not loading" (opens in new tab).

Interestingly, the streams that are already live seem to be (mostly) working as they should. If you follow the direct link to the live channel, the stream starts playing without any problems, but all other elements on the page, such as the chat and streamer info panel, are gone. In fact, it is sort of peaceful, just me, the streamer, and a bunch of gray boxes that don't actually load. I could get used to this.

Power outages are not the best way to ring in the new year, but bugs happen and Twitch will be back to full functionality by the end of the day; I will update this post as soon as Twitch releases more details about the issue.
