Google Adopts Nvidia GeForce Now in Asus' Latest Chromebooks

Announced at this year's CES, Asus will unveil the Vibe CX34 Flip, a cute, white, cloud-gaming Chromebook. It was announced as part of a three new Chromebook (opens in new tab) deal by Google, Asus, Acer, and Lenovo. It is powered by a 12th generation Intel Core i7, and while it does not have a dedicated GPU, it has some great features for cloud gaming.

In fact, Asus didn't stop when they started talking about GeForce Now. [The neon orange-toned Vibe CX34 Flip looks as if it were a Google Stadia cloud gaming device, but Stadia is closing in January (open in new tab). On the Vibe CX34 Flip, GeForce Now is the primary gaming and streaming service, and will be used as the primary gaming and streaming service. It will also come with 3 months of access to Amazon's Luna+ (opens in new tab). What a perk!!!

Asus is backing up the Vibe's gaming capabilities with a 1920x1200, 144Hz panel. While the response time is only 9ms, it's still noteworthy that it's twice as fast as the panels Chromebooks have had in the past; the Vibe CX34 Flip also features an RGB backlit keyboard, anti-ghosting technology, and Wi-Fi 6E to maximize online game streaming The 360 can be used like a standard clamshell laptop, or since it is convertible, it can be used as a tablet or in tent mode. It also comes with a stylus that allows users to draw on the touchscreen.

The Vibe's maximum capacity is 16GB of DDR4 RAM and 512GB of fast PCIe-based storage; the SSD may seem a bit small for a gaming laptop, but when most of what you're doing is cloud-based, an Internet connection is everything, while lack of storage space becomes a bit less of an issue.

The Vibe CX34 Flip costs $600 and comes bundled with a "SteelSeries 3" gaming mouse (not sure if that's Rival, Aerox, or otherwise).

Sadly for Asus, Google is working with Lenovo, HyperX, SteelSeries, and Corsair on the peripherals side, so Asus cannot pair this machine with its own gaming mouse.

Still, the Vibe CX34 Flip itself looks physically attractive with its nice big touchpad and weird orange flair. At the very least, the screen's colors look great in person. For now, it's a step in the right direction for cloud gaming. Even if Google has to abandon its own cloud gaming service.
