Microsoft is trying to get people off Google by incorporating machine learning into Bing.

According to a report by The Information (opens in new tab) (via the Verge (opens in new tab)), the technology behind the AI chatbot ChatGPT will be coming to Microsoft Bing in March. This is expected to make Bing a bit more versatile beyond ranking search results.

ChatGPT (opens in new tab) is an AI-powered chatbot that can provide almost human-like long-form answers to open-ended questions. Microsoft is investing more than $1 billion in OpenAI, an AI company, in 2019, and the giant technology company appears to be looking to leverage that investment to gain ground on Google in the search engine space.

OpenAI is also behind the DALL-E image generator (opens in new tab) that Microsoft says will appear in Bing in the future. [How will incorporating AI behind ChatGPT improve Microsoft Bing?

"However, incorporating ChatGPT and similar AI technologies could improve Bing's natural language processing capabilities, allowing it to better understand and respond to user queries written in natural language.

While this is a pretty good answer, I still had many problems while using ChatGPT. In its responses, the AI too often gets a lot of information wrong (opens in new tab) and also has a few problems (opens in new tab), many of which, according to the ChatGPT site, have to do with the AI's "limited knowledge of the global situation in 2021 and beyond." It has to do with. However, I am more concerned with the part that states that it "may occasionally generate harmful instructions or biased content."

OpenAI released ChatGPT for public testing in November. Microsoft hopes to offer an AI-powered version of Bing by the end of March. It could let you write an essay about Star Wars or make a top 10 list of the best video games. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft incorporates this into Bing.

And just for fun, we asked ChatGPT to create a haiku about how terrible Bing's search results are.

The search results are so bad

Bing, you let me down once again

I'll do better next time [23]
