EVE Online Plans Two More Expansions in 2023 Following Boom in 2022

CCP Games, developer of EVE Online (opens in new tab), has released its annual message detailing its plans for 2023. The recent Uprising expansion enhanced the war between EVE factions by blowing up entire stars (opens in new tab) and made significant changes to the war between factions in the notoriously low-security space.

The changes to that war seem to have worked: "CCP said, "Of particular note is the 75% spike in PvP kills in low security and the 11% increase in PvP kills in high security despite additional gank restrictions." This was a big boost to industry and mining, with naval ship production up 14,709% and capital manufacturing up 34%!"

CCP stated.

2023 marks the 20th anniversary of EVE Online, and the momentum is not slowing down: according to CCP, EVE's expansion will take place in both the second quarter (April-June) and fourth quarter (October-December) of 2023. In addition, this year's Fanfest, a big event celebrating EVE's 20th anniversary, will be held in Reykjavik from September 21 to 23.

EVE Online has been in operation since 2003 and is a highly successful space MMO that pioneered a gaming model that was (and still is) largely unique and based on a player-powered economy. The game has undergone significant changes in the last few years, particularly a major overhaul of the UI and graphical elements (open in new tab) to provide a new player experience more suited to the games of the 2020s.

This player focus has meant that EVE is one of the most well-known MMOs. Whether it is a year-long plan to destroy a deadly fortress (opens in new tab), an elaborate assassination plot (opens in new tab), or the incredible story of a 16-month plan to steal a famous pirate ship (opens in new tab).

Also this year will see the release of a closed beta of the Microsoft Excel plugin for EVE, which is both a joke and no joke. (opens in new tab)
