Borderlands" film to be reshot by "Deadpool" director

Filming for the film Borderlands began early in 2021, with Hungary replacing the ruined wilderness of Pandora. A test screening (opens in new tab) took place in November 2022, and apparently inspired by the response, some changes were made, and Deadline (opens in new tab) reports that it is returning for reshoots with a different director in charge.

Gore film buff Eli Roth ("Cabin Fever," "Hostel") handled primary photography, while Tim Miller ("Deadpool," "Terminator: New Beginnings/Dark Fate") has taken over reshoots that will take two weeks, according to Deadline. began production on his next project, the horror film "Thanksgiving," which required an amicable handover.

"Thanksgiving" was based on one of the fake movie trailers that aired in 2007 as part of "Grindhouse," a double feature of the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino co-production "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof." The joke trailer proved so popular that "Thanksgiving" became the third film to be made into a movie, following "Machete" and "Hobo with a Shotgun".

"Borderlands" features Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as Patricia Tanis, Kevin Hart as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Gina Gershon as Moxie, Krieg Florian Munteaunu, and Jack Black as Claptrap, a witty robot who everyone loves and no one likes a bit. Penn Jillette of "Penn and Teller" is also apparently making a cameo appearance.

No one knows how much of the story has been changed by this reshoot, but according to the cheesy synopsis from when filming began, "These unlikely heroes must find and protect a missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power by monsters and dangerous bandits in order to find and protect a missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe may be in their hands, but they will be fighting for something more: each other."

In 2022, we got two new "Borderlands" titles, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, a loot shooter reskinned as an endearing parody of tabletop RPGs, which we thought was pretty good. Tales From the Borderlands, the new Borderlands game attempted to recapture the glory of Telltale's Borderlands games, but it didn't quite succeed.
