First major update to "Cult of the Ram" adds new attacks to all weapons.

One of this summer's hits, the action base-building roguelike Cult of the Lamb (opens in new tab), enters winter with the announcement of its first major content update for next year. New elements will be added to the cute and violent cult, and the emphasis will be on the combat portion of the game rather than the cult's operations.

The new content update will add new techniques to the "lamb" itself, allowing the user to press and hold the attack button to unleash heavy attacks specific to each weapon. Area of Effect Smash for the sword, Boomerang Throw for the axe, and Dagger Raining for the dagger are shown.

Besides the new weapons, Massive Monster says Cult of the Lamb's first major content update will include "many other new features that add depth, difficulty, accessibility, and quality of life."

"We have more fixes planned for early in the new year, and then we will work on this big content update. The amount is huge and will take more time to cook," said developer Massive Monster. There are also two new forms for followers, which will be available as Twitch drops until January 5.

You can read the winter update from Cult of the Lamb's development team on Steam (opens in a new tab). Click here for a sickening GIF of the lamb and critters in intense attack action.

Cult of the Lamb is a fusion of base building and action roguelike dungeon that begins with you, the lamb, being sacrificed to an evil god. But the dark monster who saved you and helped you slay your captor has bigger plans: the formation of a cult. Sounds good.

PC Gamer reviewer Luke Kemp described the game as "Animal Crossing if Tom Nook craved power instead of money," noting that it successfully blends settlement management with combat and crawling.

"There is a feedback loop where your actions in the settlements directly affect your progress in the dungeons. The leveling system is, frankly, genius. The basic idea is that the bigger and happier the cult is, the faster you can harvest their devotion," he said in PC Gamer's Cult of the Lamb review.

More information on Cult of the lamb can be found on its official website, where it is regularly priced at $25 on both GOG (opens in a new tab) and Steam, with a 25% discount on Steam until January 5 for about $18.75, and on GOG until the Winter Sale ends on January 2, I Don't Know Because It Doesn't Say But Their Winter Sale Ends On January 2.

If you missed it, Cult of the Lamb recently released a nice little animation set in the game world. It's sort of a longitudinal set of theoretical animated series based on the world of the Lamb.

Also, this lovely holiday image.
