The Last of Us" will work with Steam Deck, creators confirm

The problem with suffocating human misery is that it is not suffocating enough. Sometimes I go to a nice lunch or garden center, or wander through an amber cornfield in the evening sun. But that doesn't happen anymore! When the bleak and apocalyptic "The Last of Us" finally hits PCs next March 3 (opens in new tab), you can suffer whenever and wherever you want.

The news comes directly from TLoU creator (and Naughty Dog co-president) Neil Druckmann's Twitter feed (opens in new tab), where Druckmann told a fan asking about the game's Deck compatibility, "( Ellie and Joel (the main characters of TLoU) will adorn the Steam Deck.

So don't worry. When the game launches on PC next year, it will satisfy your weakness for bleakness on the go. Of course, Druckmann has not stated how well the game will run, so the frame rate and fidelity may be reduced to make it run in the palm of your hand, but it's an impressive boast for Deck nonetheless. On consoles, The Last of Us Part 1 is one of the relatively few games that demands to run only on the PS5 (though that may be partly due to the fact that there is already another gussied-up version of TLoU for the PS4 (open in new tab)) Deck is apparently the only one who can keep up with this current-gen The fact that it seems to be able to keep up with the highlight of the work is a testament to its capabilities.

While Sony and a few others are throwing all their weight behind a default price point of $70/£70 for new games, TLoU is a nostalgic $60/£50 on Steam (open in new tab). I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it. The original wasn't the best game ever, as some would say, but it was a tense and evocative story with great acting and a solid narrative. It's a joy to be freed from the shackles of consoles and free to roam around on PC and Steam Deck.

This is not the only PS exclusive software. Sony also announced that the roguelike shooter Returnal will be coming to PC (opens in new tab) in the near future; Steam (opens in new tab) currently has the vague "Coming soon," but SteamDB (opens in new tab) shows that this There is a good chance that it will work on Deck whenever it is released. Pretty good time to be a PC gamer if you ask me.
