200,000 AMD Radeon RX 7900 GPUs reportedly available at launch

Our Jacob has been tracking the launch festivities, trying to find stock of AMD's RX 7900 XTX (opens in new tab) graphics cards. For what it's worth, however, AMD reportedly has over 200,000 Radeon RX 7900 XTX (opens in new tab) and RX 7900 XT GPUs ready for launch.

According to HardOCP's Kyle Bennett (opens in new tab), this 200,000 card figure will be available in the final quarter of 2023, with only a few weeks remaining, and it appears that over 30,000 reference spec cards were offered today.

Of course, this 30,000-card figure does not include custom designs by AIB manufacturers. In other words, it does not include custom-designed boards, if available.

A peek at the Twitter threads will find some, shall we say, debate over the accuracy of this figure. One poster claims that all boards in Europe and North America are reference cards and that the number at launch was less than 30,000. The same contributor says that customs deadlines (opens in new tab) prevented custom-designed boards from shipping in time for launch.

Without official confirmation from AMD and Nvidia, it is impossible to know exactly how many of these cards were manufactured and sold. However, there are some indications (open in new tab) that Nvidia has prepared 100,000 RTX 4090 (open in new tab) and 30,000 RTX 4080 (open in new tab) for each launch.

Meanwhile, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX, which you'll see priced high on sites like eBay (damn resellers), appear to be nearly sold out today at most major retailers.

It will be interesting to see how quickly inventory will replenish over the next week or so, and whether AMD's new boards will continue to sell out, or whether inventory will be available after the zero-day rush.
