World of Warcraft Dragonflight Season 1 kicks off with new raids, arenas, and plenty of proto-drakes that need killing.

Many adventurers in Azeroth have spent weeks mastering "World of Warcraft": in Dragonflight Season 1, Blizzard threw them a new challenge (opens in new tab). The villain of the expansion, the impressively named "Razuzageth the Storm Eater," along with his fellow primalists, broke into the Vault of Incarnation.

The Vault of the Incarnates raid is a quick challenge with Mythic, Heroic, and Normal difficulty levels.

The first Dragonflight raid is tied to the feud between the proto-dragons and the dragonkind; when Raszageth is freed from her prison in the prologue to Dracthyr, the conflict between the two is rekindled. She is dangerous enough on her own, but in the "Vault of Incarnation" she plans to free her brothers and purify Azeroth from their age-old plan: the influence of the Titans. Unless, of course, you stop them.

Since I don't raid much and don't have time for this serious stuff these days, I'll wait for Vault of the Incarnates to appear on the Raid Finder: the first wing opens the week of December 19, the second the week of January 2, the 16th The third will open the week of January 16.

If you plan to wait too, you can at least get a taste of the full raid by watching the guilds compete in Race to World First (RWF). Conveniently, there is a primer on Race to World First, which has become a big streaming event, so check out our feature on the history of Race to World First (opens in a new tab) to get up to speed.

Certain bosses will drop Primalist class armor sets, and equipping two and four will give you bonuses to your abilities based on your expertise. Frankly, these new sets are not aesthetically pleasing, but I have to laugh at the hunter's appearance (above): it may be intended to look draconic, but in reality the hunter just looks like an angry bird.

Accompanying the first raid is a rotation of new dungeons for Mythic+, including four dragonflight dungeons. Full list here:

Mythic+'s season affix is Thundering, which increases enemy health by 5%, curses the player with an unwanted gift from Raszageth, and overcharges the player with primal power. This power must be released quickly or the player will be stunned.

Achieve a high enough Mythic+ rating and you will earn many new rewards: the title "The Thundering" for 1500, a gorgeous new mount, the Hailstorm Armoredon for 2000, +20+ in each dungeon Dungeon Teleport, and finally, the top 0.1% of players in each region will earn the title "The Thundering Hero" at the end of the season.

Outside of the dungeons, players will be able to take on four new world bosses on a weekly basis. The first boss is Basrikron, a rocky green proto-drake and shale wing. Battle it out with a large group of players.

This update also marks the beginning of the first PvP season in Dragon Flight. Check out the new centaur-themed arena, the Nokhdon Experimental Field, for new titles, mounts, and more PvP rewards include the Crimson Gladiator title, the Crimson Gladiator's Drake, and a new dragonriding appearance, Alliance and Horde-themed sabertooth mounts, among others. New weapon illusions, tabards, cloaks, and pennants will also be available in a future patch before the end of the first season.

Finally, Primal Storms are back. These were part of the pre-launch events, but now the Storm will appear in the Dragon Isles.
