Blizzard Bends "Overwatch 2" Battle Pass to Make It Easier to Unlock the Next Hero for Free

Overwatch 2's newest hero, Ramattra, is a little easier to earn for free than Chirico in Season 1.

"After reviewing the data from Season 1, we are moving Ramattra to Tier 45 of the Battle Pass and making it easier to complete some more weekly challenges," game director Aaron Keller wrote on Twitter today (in a new tab). (open in new tab).

When Overwatch 2 launched, the first new support hero, Chirico, was locked into Tier 55 of the Free Battle Pass. To unlock her for free, she had to continuously complete Daily and Weekly Challenges to earn XP. It didn't take a tremendous amount of time to move up a tier, but it still took many players weeks to get there on their own (the group was given a 20% XP bonus).

Moving Ramattra to tier 45 is not a major change, but if you don't want to pay 1,000 Overswatch Coins ($10) for a Premium Battle Pass to get him right away, the hard work of the Daily and Weekly Challenges would be a little less.

You still cannot purchase the newest hero from the in-game store. However, Blizzard has stated that Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko will be available for purchase with Overwatch coins if you missed unlocking them earlier. Alternatively, they can be unlocked by completing the Hero Challenge, which requires winning the game, as well as the New Player Experience mechanism (opens in a new tab). Owners of Overwatch 1 can get the last three new heroes for free simply by logging into Overwatch 2 before the end of Season 2 in February.

The second season of Overwatch 2, which launches tomorrow, will feature a new Battle Pass with a massive 80 tiers of cosmetic rewards, including a mythic-grade customizable Zeus Junker Queen skin Doomfist, Bastion, Sojourn (opens in new tab), and a handful of heroes including Kiriko receive significant balance changes. The new season will include a new payload map set in the Chambari monastery, the roots of Ramatras and Zenyatta, and a new game mode, "Battle of Olympus."
