Gundam keyboards with RGB eliminated and 90's mecha printed on them!

Peripherals manufacturer Higround has announced a Gundam-themed mechanical keyboard (opens in new tab) and accessories in collaboration with Bandai Namco. The product will go on sale December 9.

Higround's Sonic the Hedgehog collection (opens in new tab) is probably fresh in your mind, but the Gundam merchandise is equally eye-catching. The Gundam Base Camp case is made of translucent plastic, a weak point in my consumer electronics design.

In terms of keycaps, the zoomed-out full-body set is the clear winner in my book, but when it comes to function and aesthetics, every set boasts a design that "has the best of both worlds." Since it's hard to type when the keycaps are pure white (opens in new tab), the Higround product has a side-print legend in case you need to cheat.

I am also pleased with what is under the keycaps. The choice of mechanical switches is a very personal matter, but I appreciate that Higround uses custom switches on both boards. In my experience, in the world of keyboard switches, the more meaningless names are indicators of quality, and the "Thin Ice" and "White Flame" (open in new tab) linear switches offered by Higround in this collection are the "Holy Pandas" and "Gateron" of the world It would not be out of place in "Oil Kings.

The collection also includes desk mats and tote bags, and I'm a big fan of the pitch-black mouse pads. The art on the mobile suits looks fuzzy, as if it were ripped straight from a Toonami broadcast in the early 2000s.

Pricing is probably the same as Higround's previous products, with the Basecamp board at $145 and the Summit 65 at $290. The Basecamp and other accessories will be available on December 9, while the Summit 65 can be pre-ordered.
